Annalie Basson, President IFOMPT
Annalie Basson (M.Phys.T (research), B.Sc. Physiotherapy, OMT certificate) is a physiotherapist in private practice in Pretoria, South Africa. She has been working in private practice for the past 24 years. Her main interests are low back pain, neck pain, headaches and patients with chronic pain.
Annalie has been active on committees of the OMTG since 1985 and was chairperson of the national executive committee of the OMTG from 1998 – 2004. She has been course leader for the OMT course in Pretoria since 1998 and lectures on this and continuing education courses. She is a member of the South African chapter of the International Association for the Study of Pain. She is the chairperson of the research Foundation of the South African Society of Physiotherapy. She has presented papers at national and international congresses on pain and headaches.

Duncan Reid, Vice-President IFOMPT
Dr Duncan Reid - DHSc, MHSc (Hons) BSc, Dip Physio, Dip MT, PGD (Manipulative Physiotherapy) FNZCP
Associate Professor and Head, School of Rehabilitation and Occupation Studies, Faculty of Health and Environmental; Science, Auckland University of Technology
Co Module Leader Musculoskeletal Physiotherapy, Masters of Health Science programme.
Duncan has had 30 years of clinical experience in Musculoskeletal Physiotherapy. He owned and operated a private practice for 17 years before moving to a full time teaching position at the School of Physiotherapy at AUT in 1999. His main areas of interest are in manual and manipulative therapy, especially manipulation to the cervical spine, a topic he has taught both nationally and internationally for over 20 years. He is the past president of the New Zealand Manipulative Physiotherapists Association (NZMPA) and is currently Vice President of the International Federation of Orthopaedic Manipulative Physical Therapists (IFOMPT). He is a Fellow of the New Zealand College of Physiotherapy and a Life Member of the New Zealand Manipulative Physiotherapy Association (NZMPA).
Duncans experience in Sports Physiotherapy is also extensive. He has been a member of the Olympic and Commonwealth Games Medical team from 1988 until the Sydney Olympics in 2000 and was Chief Physiotherapist for the 1992, 1994 and 1996 Games. He has also been the physiotherapist and physiotherapy coordinator to Rowing New Zealand since 1988 and continues to hold this position. Duncan is the Director of Rehabilitation for the New Zealand Academy of Sport (North Island) monitoring the services of physiotherapists to over 150 elite athletes. He has had extensive involvement with national and international level Rowing, Hockey and Swimming.
Research
Duncan completed his Master thesis investigating the influence of hamstring extensibility on the lumbar and pelvic angles in rowers He has also been involved in the development of clinical practice guidelines for knee, shoulder and forearm injuries. He completed his Doctor of Health Science investigating stretching interventions in people with osteoarthritis of the knee. He has over 40 peer reviewed journal and book publications and is on the Editorial panel of the journals Manual Therapy, Manual and Manipulative Therapy and the New Zealand Journal of Sports Medicine.

Erik Thoomes, Secretary-Treasurer, IFOMPT
Erik graduated as a physiotherapist in 1984, specialized in sportsphysiotherapy in 1991 and graduated as a manual therapist in 1992
He works as a clinician in his own private practice in his home town as well as in a major sports rehab centre where he works with elite athletes.
He is head of the continuing education & lifelong learning division of the SOMT educational centre for musculoskeletal therapies in Amersfoort, the major educational program in manual therapy in The Netherlands, where he also teaches and oversees the mentored clinical practice program.
After organizing the national manual therapy congresses in The Netherlands for many years, he was the congress committee chairman of the 2008 IFOMT congress in Rotterdam.

Ken Olson, Executive Member, IFOMPT
Dr. Ken Olson is the president and managing partner of the physical therapy private practice Northern Rehabilitation and Sports Medicine Associates in DeKalb, Illinois, USA. Ken completed the University of St. Augustine for Health Sciences’ Master of Science and Doctor of Health Science degrees in orthopaedic manual physical therapy. In addition to being a board certified clinical specialist in orthopaedic physical therapy, he is fellowship trained in manual physical therapy from the University of St. Augustine. Additionally, he is an adjunct assistant professor for Marquette University and is the author of the textbook titled: Manual Physical Therapy of the Spine published by Saunders, Elsevier; 2009.
In addition to being elected to the IFOMPT executive in 2008, Ken was the USA member organization delegate to IFOMT in 2004. Ken served on the executive committee of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Manual Physical Therapists (USA member organization to IFOMT) from 1995 – 2006 and was President from 2002 – 2005. He also serves on the American Physical Therapy Association’s Manipulation task force and was a co-author of the Manipulation Education Manual, a resource designed to assist physical therapy faculty to integrate high velocity thrust manipulation into entry-level physical therapy curriculum in the United States. Ken has published in numerous peer – reviewed Journals and presented courses throughout the United States in the manual physical therapy diagnosis and management of spine and TMJ disorders. In 2007, Ken received the John McM. Mennell Service Award from the AAOMPT.

Michael Ritchie, Executive Member, IFOMPT
Michael graduated with a B.Sc. in Physiotherapy from Dalhousie University, Halifax, Canada, in 1979 and has been in private practice since that time. He has been a fellow of the Canadian Academy of Manipulative Therapists since 1986, CAMT is the Canadian IFOMPT MO. His areas of clinical interest include spinal manipulation, postural rehabilitation, muscle imbalance therapy (ala Sahrmann), and TMD, working closely with dental specialists for 25 years.
He received his M.Ed. from Mount Saint Vincent University in Halifax, Canada, in 2005, specializing in Adult Education. His working project was entitled “Applying the Gold Standard in a Bronze Medal World: The Challenges of Integrating Validated Research into Continuing Orthopaedic Manual Therapy Physical Therapy Education”.
Prior to becoming the President of IFOMPT from 2004 to 2008, he was the Canadian IFOMT MO delegate from 2000-2004, and during this time he worked closely with website developers on the IFOMT website, www.ifomt.org. He has lectured at the schools of physiotherapy and dentistry, Dalhousie University, has taught continuing courses locally and nationally, and has also lectured internationally on TMD syndromes. In 1996 and 1997 he lectured in Kuwait as part of the Dalhousie Kuwait project. In 2006 he was voted Nova Scotia “Physiotherapist of the Year” by his peers.

Vicki Reid, Office Manager of IFOMPT
Vicki started her working life by training as a Registered Nurse at Tauranga Hospital, New Zealand in 1978, continuing on to be staff nurse in both Orthopaedics and Special Care Nursery. She then worked as a practice nurse for 2 years in Morrinsville before having her 2 children. To fit in with parenthood, she worked part time in a Real Estate office as office administrator for 2 years, progressing to Executive Officer of the New Zealand Manipulative Physiotherapists Association (NZMPA) in 1998 and holding office there until October 2010.
In June 2000 Vicki was approached to work 4 hours per week as Office Manager of IFOMPT, a role which has continued to grow and is now 10 hours per week. Vicki completed a Diploma in Event Management in 2007 at the Auckland University of Technology.
